Volunteer Opportunities

Gardening

Join us in the garden every other Friday morning from late April to early November as we nurture and expand the public gardens at Bagaduce Music. Work alongside experienced gardeners and program staff to plant prune, and care for native plants. You'll also have the chance to participate in trail building, seed saving, plant identification, and general garden maintenance. Come learn new skills and make a difference in our vibrant garden community!

Our final 2024 volunteer session was on Friday, Novmber 1 followed by a volunteer appreciation light lunch. Regular sessions will resume in Spring 2025.

Location: Bagaduce Music, 49 South St, Blue Hill

Photography

Photography is a key component of our plant database as well as how we share our work with the community. Email us if you are interested in supporting this effort: gardens@ngbh.org

Plant database

Our plant database is continually growing, thanks to a dedicated team of volunteers who research and create profiles on Maine native plants. This work can be done at your own pace from the comfort of your home, offering a fantastic opportunity to deepen your knowledge of native plants. Email us if you are interested in supporting this effort: gardens@ngbh.org

Events

From plant sales to workshops, NGBH hosts a variety of events throughout the year. Volunteers play a crucial role in ensuring these events run smoothly and in sharing their enthusiasm for native plants. Email us if you are interested in supporting our events: gardens@ngbh.org

Committees

NGBH is actively seeking new members to join our Education, Outreach, and Fundraising Committees. If you share our passion for native plants, education, and ecological horticulture, please reach out to NGBH’s Executive Director Cathy Rees: cathy.rees@ngbh.org

From our volunteers

“If you are passionate about the environment, gardening and native plants, then this is the place you need to get hands-on experience.”

“Invaluable one-on-one and group mentoring experience. I have learned so much.”

“Come join for the exchange of ideas, knowledge and camaraderie.”

Thank you!

We would like to thank the hundreds of volunteers who have made tremendous contributions to our organization. We wouldn’t be where we are today without you.

We owe a special thanks to the University of Maine Cooperative Extension Master Gardener Volunteer program, whose volunteers have helped build our gardens and programs from the ground up. To learn more, visit extension.umaine.edu/gardening/master-gardeners.
